I've been in Manhattan for just over 48 hours. I have so much to say, and no clear idea of how to say it. NYC has that affect on a person. To a visitor like me, this city generates a crushing amount of information to process. Natives and long-time residents have perhaps learned to block out the neon and sensory overload. Me? I get lost in it. The history here is impossible to ignore, and every square inch looks like a movie set. It would be easy to call NY a lonely city, but I think instead it is a city easy to be lonely in. I'm here until mid-August, and I know that's not long enough to become an expert on the place, but I hope it gives me a tiny flavor of what it might be like to live here.
I still plan to sit down and write a proper entry, but for now these little iPhone updates will have to do...

If you feel like coming to the Jersey Shore, let me know. I feel like the beaches here are all movie sets with the boardwalks.

You have a very eloquent and accurate way of describing New York City. You're so very lucky to be able to stay there for an entire month as an "observer" with an immaculate perspective of what you see and experience. Quite unlike the seasoned, heedless residents who've become accustomed to the same sights day in and day out. There is beauty everywhere in NYC, I've thought and felt it each time I've been. It truly is an awesome and overwhelming place.
