By the firelight, in the most comfortable chair, my son and I are at perfect peace. I wonder how this world existed for me, without him. I reflect upon all of the decisions in my life (good, bad, and seemingly irrelevant) that led us to this moment, and I'm thankful that I have been so lucky. I am humbled by the scope of the miracle of new life. Again, my perspective has changed in ways I never knew I needed. I could stare at his tiny, monkey head for hours. In fact, I do.

That is a beautiful picture and I love the direction your blog is going.

Oooh! Congratulations, Papa! I hadn't popped by for a while so I didn't know that he came into the world. He is wonderful!
And thank you for your kind message - I'm very excited, very nervous...very tired!
And YES! To Long Beach, most likely. My husband has a lot of work with LAX/LA Port...we'll know for sure by mid next week. Might be saying howdy neighbour before long!

Shane,
It's amazing how the moment that new baby enters our lives its as if we have had them there an eternity.. How it is almost impossible to even recall a day without them there. That is something I can't explain but with each of my 4 children that feeling was there. ZEN is amazing and I'm glad to see you posting again.

Four months from now, I will become a father. As part of my training, I have decided to talk with fathers about their personal journey as a parent. I am thrilled to see that you will be one of them through your blog.
I often hear "I made so many mistakes with my first born!" so I'm asking every father: what mistake did you make that you will not repeat with the second? I'd be happy to hear your thoughts on the topic if you feel inspired.

Shane, Congrat's on fatherhood 2X! Now the fun begins. Ever hear what Bill Cosby says about parenting well it's headed your way. One child no problem, two watch out! Enjoy those baby days. Their special. But many MORE special days are to come. Congrat's again.

Ahh the fun of staring at a newborn. We all do it... and they say you should sleep when the baby sleeps. Ha!

I know exactly what you mean Shane........I just had twin girls on Dec 5th, changed my life. I also find that my past was one long lesson leading up to that moment.

My best friend had her baby on October 10th and I often drive to San Pedro just to look at it. I stopped by because I was thinking, "Hey, shouldn't Shane have an extra baby now?" and you do! Just in time for all the holidays, too. How awesome.

Enjoy this moment for it seems to be so long ago when they are big and you will want to cherish every coo, scream but not the dirty diapers.
Keep Smiling!
